Consecration of Andrew Asbil to Sacred Order of Bishops

The Very Reverend Andrew Asbil, Dean of Toronto, is consecrated Bishop at St James Cathedral

The Very Reverend Andrew Asbil was elected coadjutor bishop of the diocese by Synod on 9 June 2018. He will become the 12th Bishop of Toronto, or diocesan bishop, on 1 January 2019. He will succeed Archbishop Colin Johnson, who is retiring at the end of the year.

The service began with an acknowledgment by Bishop-elect Chris Harper, the next Bishop of Saskatoon, that it was being held on traditional First Nations land. He then smudged the chancel, purifying and sanctifying the altar with scented smoke.
